UFC released late Monday they are "Goin back to Cali" for UFC 104. The Brazilians, Lyoto "the Dragon" Machida and Maurico "Shogun" Rua, will headline the event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on October 24, 2009. Presented by TapouT, UFC 104 will be Machida's first light heavyweight title defense. The main card will also include heavyweight contenders and rising stars Cain Valasquez vs. "Big" Ben Rothwell.
UFC 104 held a press conference on Tuesday in Los Angeles and friends Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua were in attendance as well as Cain Velsquez and Ben Rothwell.
It was reported the Brazilian gladiators even shared a plane ride from Brazil to LA.
“To tell you the truth,” said Rua during one of the afternoon’s lighter moments, “Lyoto is a nice guy and we have been kind of friends for a while … but even though we are friends, I was very, very surprised to see him on the plane and actually sitting next to me, side by side, on the whole flight all the way from Brazil to here.”
Something tells me they won’t be BFF’s in the cage come October 24.
The full card was also announced at the presser and I have to say the UFC is really knocking these cards out with some great fights. I hope Spike steps up and shows the pre-lims for this fight as well.
